Domaine Guy Mardon ‘La Rousselière’ Rouge 2024
Location: France, Loire
Winemaker: Jean-Luc Mardon
Grapes: Pinot Noir
Soil: Sand gravel over clay
Winemaking: No pesticides in farming. Hand-harvested; 3-4 days of maceration before spontaneous fermentation
From the Importer The Artisan Collection: Father and son winemakers Guy and Jean-Luc Mardon run the family estate of Domaine Guy Mardon on 35 hectares in the heart of Touraine. Guy ran the domaine from 1970-1995 when Jean-Luc, the fifth generation, took over the day-to-day operations.
Jean-Luc maintains traditional vineyard and winemaking practices. The wine is still aged inthe original cellar under the family home. Since 1995, the winery had reduced yields andbecome a member of Terra Vitis, a group that pursues environmentally friendly viticulture, without the use of pesticides. Each parcel is vinified separately before blending. Domaine Guy Mardon is located on a plateau between the Loir and Cher rivers. An Atlantic climate with low rainfall, ample sun and cool nights, combined with sandy soil over a clay base leads to an excellent acidity and aromatics in their grapes.
