Château Peybonhomme-Les-Tours 'Le Blanc Bonhomme ' Bordeaux Blanc 2023
Winemaker: Catherine & Jean-Luc Hubert
Grapes: 45% Sémillon, 45% Sauvignon Blanc, 10% Colombard
Since the 17th century the family Hubert estate has occupied the gentle slope overlooking the Gironde estuary and across to the Médoc. They farm organically and seem equally at home with traditional Bordeaux bottlings (sturdy, crunchy red blends) as well as some genre-bending cuvées (Blanc de noirs table wine, a peppery pet nat, etc). We fell hard for their Bordeaux Blanc ‘Le Blanc Bonhomme’ last vintage and are happy to finally taste the ‘19: Sauvignon and Sémillon from clay/limestone soils provide a shiny, mineral impression of starfruit smoothie, grass and cool water.
The Château Peybonhomme-les-Tours 'Le Blanc Bonhomme' is a shining example of balance and tenderness. Roughly half-and-half Sauvignon and Semillon with some Colombard, it sits in a spot that is both pleasantly fleshed out and cut like a gemstone. This is a subtle wine for fans of quiet, brûlee-like complexity and tempered (nearly muted) tropical fruit - all in tune with freshness and sleek length.
