La Garagista ‘Of Mint and Lightning’ White 2023

$37.00

Location: United States, Vermont

Winemaker: Deirdre Heekin & Caleb Barber

Grapes: Brianna

Soil: Clay limestone

From the Producer: Our Field Studies family of wines is an exploration of other landscapes in Vermont and partnerships with other farmers. Of Mint and Lightning is one of three wines we are making from the alpine vineyard on the side of Round Mountain. The fruit is cultivated by Shabir Kamal on the Thurber family farm Lilac Ridge, in a field described by daisy fleabane, the flight of the winter wren, green schist, granite and limestone. Dairy cows graze in the bony meadow above where lilacs must have once been. Of Mint and Lightning comes from a line in the poem ‘When Storms Came Late in the Afternoon’ by poet farmer Ross Thurber from his collection Pioneer Species.

This white wine is dry, white-flowered, and structured full of minerality, texture and lime leaf, especially expressive for such a young vineyard. We like this wine with: oysters, fresh goat cheeses, shrimp, fried chicken sandwiches, country pâté with cornichon and mustard.
